Entry Permit

The Indian tourist traveling to Bhutan do not require visa at all. But identification document such as passport or election commission I.D cards is however required for the immigration process to obtain entry permit. Six passport size photographs are also required.

However, if any one fails or does not have the above document an affidavit letter from Supreme Court is needed.

Route Permit

The route permit is required for those traveling to restricted area beyond dochula pass. The route pass is processed and issued from Thimphu only after arrival in Bhutan on production of the entry permit. For route permit, two copies of passport size photograph is required and it can be processed only during working hours (Monday -Friday). The applications are accepted from 9-11 am and the permit is granted on same day from 3-5 pm in summer and 3-4 pm in winter.

Entry Points in Bhutan

There are three entry routes to Bhutan for any visitor as follows:-

  1. By Air to Paro International Airport which is 50kms away from capital city Thimphu. Only Bhutan’s Airline “Druk Air & Tahi Air operates flights from Paro Airport. Druk Air flies to Paro from Calcutta, Bagdogra (near Siliguri north Bengal) and New Delhi International Airports. Immigration formalities for Indian Tourists is done in Paro Airport, immigration office. But they have to produce Indian passport or Election Commission’s ID card and Birth Certificate for Children as mentioned earlier with passport size photographs.
  1. By road to Phuentsholing town in Bhutan. Tourists can travel by Indian Airlines to Bagdogra Airport (near Siliguri north Bengal). Phuentsholing Bhutan is 154kms distance from Bagdogra. Nearest Railway station of North Bengal to Phuentsholing town is Hasimara 17kms. The other nearby Railway Stations are New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri 109kms distance. This is the most convenient route to enter Bhutan by road. There are Indian Bus & Taxi services available to reach Phuentsholing. Our Company can make arrangement to pick up tourists from these places if required. Immigration formalities for Indian Tourists is done at Phuentsholing , Samdrupjongkhar and Paro Bhutan, immigration office to enter Bhutan. But they have to produce Indian passport or Election Commission’s ID card and Birth Certificate for Children as mentioned earlier with passport size photographs.
  1. By Road to Samdrupjongkhar Town in eastern part of Bhutan. Samdrupjongkhar Town is 110kms away from Guwahati, Assam. This route connects six districts of eastern Bhutan and from this route also tourists can visit other parts of Bhutan. Immigration formalities for Indian Tourists is done at Samdrupjongkhar Bhutan, immigration office to enter Bhutan. But they have to produce Indian passport or Election Commission’s ID card and Birth Certificate for Children as mentioned earlier with passport size photographs.
