This is an excellent trek for those of good fitness who without necessarily having had previous Alpine experience. This moderate standard rated trek passes through various picturesque high altitude lakes so named as the Thousand Lakes Trek. Also the route is particularly rich in bird species, alpine flowers and attractive meadows.

Day 1: Arrival at Paro International Airport Fly from Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Kolkata and other Druk airports to Paro Bhutan. One can have the breathtaking bird’s eye view of Himalayan Mountain and green valley of Paro. On arrival at Paro airport you will be received by a representative of Bhutan Buddha Travellers and will be escorted to a Hotel where arrangements will be made for two night halts. Day 2: Paro Sightseeing Beautiful Monuments can be seen at Paro. It includes Drugyel Dzong, ruined fortress having a great historical importance where Bhutanese finally defeated Tibetan invaders and drove them back. Others monuments includes Dilgo Khyentshe’s temple, Kichu Lhakhang built in 7th century, Dungtshe Lhakhang built by Lam Thongto Gyalpo who first introduced iron in Bhutan.  Take a break for lunch at the finest restaurant in the town. Visit National Museum housed in Ta Dzong which was used as watch tower during the time of Tibetan invasions and amazing Rimpung Dzong below the Ta Dzong. In the evening visit a farmhouse in a local village and take leisurely stroll around the town. Overnight stay and dinner in a hotel. Day 3: (Taktshang Hike, Paro- Thimphu) Your hike will be to Taktshang Monastery literally meaning Tiger’s Nest in local Language. It is located at 2000ft/600m at a steep Rock cliff. It is believed to be a place where Guru Rinpochoe flew on the back of Tiger and meditated there. The place is about 3 hours walk from the nearest road. Lunch and tea will be served in a tea house on the way with the majestic view of the Taktshang Monastery and Paro Valley. Ponies will be arranged on request till the tea house which is about 2 hours walk from the nearest road. You may opt to further continue the trip from the tea house which is about 1 hour walk uphill. On return back to the road it would take about 1 and half hours to walk downhill. At this point driver will be waiting for you  to proceed to Paro town and then continue to Thimphu which is about 1 and half hours drive along the Paro river downstream to the confluence with Wang Chhu then turn upstream  along the Wang chhu to Thimphu. Rest, dinner and overnight stay in a hotel. Day 4: (Thimphu, Sightseeing) Sightseeing in Thimphu include Memorial Chorten built in the memory of our third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, Buddha Statue at Kuensel Phodrang, Tashichho Dzong Administrative Secretariat with Monk Bodys’ living quarters, His Majesty the king’s Throne room and Offices of Government Ministries are housed, National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved, paintings and wood crafts schools where traditional arts are kept alive, indigenous hospitals, textile museum, handmade paper factory, folk heritage museum, Simtokha Dzong the first and oldest Dzong in Bhutan and other various Monastery around Thimphu. Overnight stay in the Hotel. Day 5 Thimphu to Gur. The trek begins with a 2-hour drive from Thimphu to Genekha where you start your walk at an altitude of about 2800 m.  Abundant alpine flora and fauna are a feature of the day.  After two hours’ gradual climb we take a rest at a huge rock platform overlooking the valley below.  Two hours later we reach the camp at Gur famous for its spring flowers.  (15 kms, 4 hours) Day 6.  Gur to Labatama. This is a day to enjoy the beauty of the rugged mountain, vegetation, amidst flowers and wild asparagus.  The first pass crowned with a huge cairn allows a spectacular view of the whole Daga La range, meadows and a yak herders’ camp.  After lunch the walk continues through hills and meadows and ends near Yutsho Lake with its abundant golden trout.  (12 kms, 6 hours) Day 7.  Labatama. Spend the day exploring wild Himalayan lakes with a choice of excursion to Setsho, Relitsho, Hentsho or Jamatsho lakes. Day 8. Labatama to Panka. The day begins with a 20-minute climb after which you descend with majestic views of Himalayan peaks (including Everest, Kanchenjunga, Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, Tshering Gang, Khangbum, Masang Gang, Tsendegang and Gangche Ta).  (8 kms, 4 hours) Day 9. Panka to Talekha. We traverse several passes each more impressive than the last.  This is a place to search for different varieties of blue poppy especially in June and July and spot mountain birds.  After lunch an hour’s gradual climb leads to the tip of the last Daga La range above Thimphu valley.  Another hour of walking brings us to the last camp above the Talekha monastery.  (8 kms, 4 hours) Day 10.Talekha to Thimphu. Walking through alpine and mixed vegetation including bamboo thickets and wild flowers, we arrive at Talekha monastery and village with amazing view of Thimphu valley.  We continue to walk through mixed vegetation with apple orchards until reaching the main road where a vehicle will be waiting to take you to Thimphu. Overnight stay in Thimphu. Day 11: Thimphu to Paro Via Haa. Drive towards west to Haa to make a visit there to see Haa Dzong and three mountain brothers and other fortress and monastery. After lunch in a restaurant drive up the hills to chelela pass marked by prayer flags and dwarf plants and bushes. Drive down the chelela pass through green vegetation viewing beautiful Paro valley as you drive down. Overnight stay in hotel at Paro. Day 12: Departure. After Breakfast drive back to Paro International Airport. Bhutan Buddha escort will help you with exit formalities and then bid you farewell.
